There’s something magical that happens when we share stories together. As we prepare for Library Week 2024, we’re reminded of why reading remains at the heart of everything we do at Belonie Secondary School.
Why “Read to Me” Matters More Than Ever
In our increasingly digital world, the simple act of reading aloud has become more precious—and more powerful—than ever before. This year’s theme, “Read to Me,” isn’t just about celebrating books; it’s about celebrating the voices that bring stories to life and the connections they create between us.
Research tells us that students who participate in shared reading experiences don’t just improve their literacy skills—they develop stronger emotional intelligence, better listening abilities, and a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives. But beyond the statistics, we know something even more important: reading together builds community.
Join Us on Monday, October 21st
When: Monday, 21st October 2024, 8:30 AM onwards
Where: School Library
Who: Students, parents, teachers, and community members
We’ve designed this day to be more than just an event—it’s an experience that celebrates every voice in our school community.
The Bigger Picture: Building Lifelong Learners
Library Week represents our broader commitment to developing students who see reading not as a chore, but as a pathway to understanding themselves and the world around them. When parents and community members join us in celebrating literacy, we send a powerful message: reading matters, stories matter, and every voice in our community has value.
Mark Your Calendar & RSVP
Please confirm your attendance by Friday, October 18th by emailing principal.BELsecondary@eduhq.edu.sc or calling our main office at (248) 252-4083. If you’re planning to volunteer as a reading partner, let us know so we can pair you with the right group.
Consider bringing a favorite book or story to share—there’s no better way to connect with young people than through a story that has touched your own life.
Come for the stories, stay for the connections, and leave inspired to make reading a bigger part of your family’s life.
